Success requires getting up every day and doing the right thing consistently – especially when other people aren’t looking.

My journey to today probably starts back when I was in middle school. I attended a summer enrichment program in the Bay Area called Aim High. I learned the importance of consistency and thoughtful, passionate leadership. Equally important, Aim High helped me gain admission to several high schools in San Francisco and opened the first of many doors that led me to where I am today.

I am excited by companies addressing the challenges of accessibility and transparency with technology.

The biggest changes taking place are not always highly visible. Advancements in infrastructure technology are as fundamental as the new technologies being built on top of them.

My favorite founders have enormous visions of what lies ahead. And I think great business leaders have a vision of what the future could be, a concrete understanding of why it will be that way and a plan of how they can get us there sooner.

I set aside time each day to learn something new. This includes learning from entrepreneurs who are creating new markets today.

I spent a lot of time as a child at both my grandmothers’ houses. Oscaryne was my grandmother on my mom’s side. She had the most genuine interest in the well-being of every person she met, and she fought relentlessly for our community. She was a mother of five, but countless others called her mom. Out of all of her accomplishments, this was the most exceptional in my view.

Many of the people I’ve worked with would describe me as a friend first, and a coworker second. I take great pride in this. The deeper the connection you’re able to build with people, the better the outcome.

I’m continually impressed with Sequoia’s team-oriented culture. Before I joined Sequoia, I had about 15 conversations with different team members. Each person was so unique. What was consistent was the desire to win as a team.

I joke that my greatest weakness is my jump shot (I love basketball). But truthfully, being a relatively calculated person and having an analytical background, I’m still working to better incorporate my intuition into decision making.

Being a good business partner is about being flexible. That may mean I’m introducing a founder to someone who has experience solving a particular problem. Or making reference calls. Or even reaching out to potential customers.

I don’t take myself too seriously. I want people to feel like they can be themselves around me.
